Burkina Faso is a tiny, land-locked country in West Africa. Our goal is for all people to have access to clean water, sanitation, and education to improve their quality of life. Women and girls are disproportionately affected by the impact that lack of access creates. herARTS in Action has partnered with the villagers of Tiébélé, a remote village in the southern part of the country, to develop successful programs. All programs and actions are in partnership with the villagers. We don't impose our thoughts or views and work collaboratively to bring their wishes to fruition.
WEND KOUNI WATER AND SANITATION PROJECT
Why are we doing this? To bring access to clean water and sanitation. The project name is in honor of a close Burkinabé friend and board chair. It is also the local name given to Sarah when in the city (she has a village name too).
- 75% of Burkinabé have access to water, but it’s not sanitary, and that number is even less in Tiébélé.
- Only 10% of the rural population in Burkina Faso have access to sanitation.
Achieved: Because of your action, since 2018, we have built 1 water well pump and fixed 3 and built 6 latrines and fixed 8 that serve approximately 2,000 people. We also provided sanitary pads and diarrheal medication to girls on our scholarship.

Although still in development and seeking funding, there will be business loans for the villagers, designed in collaboration with them. The project name is in honor of Sarah’s family, who give unwavering support of her goals and passions.
